Almost immediately after a patient infected with Ebola was found in the United States, the blame game began. First, Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital blamed its EHR, Epic, and a faulty workflow. Then Epic refuted that and THP retracted its statement.
But the real question was never whether people or technology are to blame. Instead, what hospitals and public health officials need to be asking is: Now that the event occurred, how can we respond rapidly and how to prevent this from happening again?
